Regular Season Round 3: Palermo - Ancona 83-50

There was no surprise when Ancona (0-3) was crushed on the road by Palermo (2-0) 83-50 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Palermo. Ancona was better in third quarter 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Ancona's 20. Palermo forced 23 Ancona turnovers and outrebounded them 33-20 including a 13-0 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Ancona's players. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian Julita Bungaite (187-87, college: Hawaii, agency: Promotex) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Elena Riccardi (187-82) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Five Palermo players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Carola Sordi (181-82) who recorded 19 points (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and point guard Margherita Mataloni (172-95) added 13 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Palermo will face Castellammare (#7) in Stabia in the next round. Ancona will play at home against La Spezia (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
