Regular Season Round 6: Challans - SAP Vaucluse 74-84

There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked SAP Vaucluse (3-3) beat on the road higher ranked Vendee Challans (3-3) 84-74 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by SAP Vaucluse. Vendee Challans managed to win fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vendee Challans 32-18 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. SAP Vaucluse shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Mali power forward Cheick Soumaoro (204-90) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Lithuanian forward Zygimantas Jonusas (200-82) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was DR Congolese-Belgian forward Ruphin Kayembe (200-92) who recorded 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and point guard Benjamin Thomas (181-82) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SAP Vaucluse moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Vendee Challans. SAP Vaucluse will meet at home higher ranked La Rochelle (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vendee Challans will play against JSA Bordeaux and hope to secure a win.
