Regular Season Round 5: Denso Iris - Hitachi Cougars 80-42

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Denso Iris (3-2) crushed bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars (0-3) in Kariya 80-42 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Hitachi Cougars was better in fourth quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 6 points in second quarter. Denso Iris held Hitachi Cougars to an opponent 22.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.2 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 56-33 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International guard Shiori Takada (171-92) contributed with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Denso Iris have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Toyota A. and Aishin AW. Hitachi Cougars at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. Denso Iris will face again Hitachi Cougars (#9) in Hitachinaka in the next round.
