Regular Season Round 5: Zarautz - Santurtzi 53-85

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Zarautz (0-2) was rolled over at home by leader Santurtzi (2-0) 85-53 on Sunday. The game without a history. Santurtzi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Zarautz to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Santurtzi dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Zarautz's 14. They outrebounded Zarautz 40-21 including a 27-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zarautz was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Juan Torres (196-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and forward Mikel Sainz (195-95) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Santurtzi players scored in double figures. point guard Jon Saez (182-90) responded with 6 points and Estanislao Andres (185-90) scored 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santurtzi keeps a position of Group A-A leader, which they share with Pielagos and Ardoi. Newly promoted Zarautz still closes the standings with two games lost. Santurtzi will face Venta de Banos (#13) at home in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Zarautz will play against Estela and hopes to get finally their first victory.
