Regular Season Round 10: Sendai 89ers - Fukushima 67-69

There was a minor upset when top-ranked Sendai 89ers (7-1) were edged at home by third ranked Fukushima (6-2) 69-67 on Sunday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sendai 89ers were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Sendai 89ers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. Swingman Le'Bryan Nash (201-92, college: Oklahoma St.) fired a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Forward Stephan Van Treese (206-90, college: Louisville, agency: Two Points) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks and guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Fukushima used an opportunity after Shiga L-Stars lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position which they share with defeated Sendai 89ers. Loser Sendai 89ers still keep top place with one game lost. Fukushima will have a break next round. Sendai 89ers will play on the road against Toyama Grouses and hope to win that game.
