Regular Season Round 4: Breakers - Taipans 90-67
Date: October 28, 2015
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Cairns Taipans' (3-4) road loss to sixth ranked New Zealand Breakers (3-3) in Auckland 67-90 on Wednesday. The game without a history. New Zealand Breakers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Cairns Taipans 44-31 including 34 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!). American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) contributed with 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Matthew Burston (211-82) replied with 12 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) added 17 points in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with 36ers. Cairns Taipans lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. New Zealand Breakers will face league's leader United in Melbourne in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cairns Taipans will play on the road against Illawarra Hawks (#6) in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
