Regular Season Round 4: Athinaikos - Panathinaikos 58-72

The biggest surprise of round 4 was guest Panathinaikos' (3-1) road victory over Athinaikos (#4) 72-58 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Athinaikos managed to win fourth quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Athinaikos' 28. Panathinaikos had a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Athinaikos' players. American guard Keani Albanez (178, college: Gonzaga) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The other American import power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Aikaterini Spatharou (172-83) produced 13 points and American guard Cherise Daniel (180-87, college: Ohio St.) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos moved-up to second place, which they share with Niki Lefkadas and PAOK. Athinaikos at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Proteas. Panathinaikos is looking forward to face PAOK (#4) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Athinaikos will play on the road against Kronos AD and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
