Regular Season Round 4: Wildcats - Hawks 91-62

An interesting game for Perth Wildcats (4-2) which hosted in Perth 4th ranked Illawarra Hawks (3-4). Second ranked Perth Wildcats had an easy win 91-62. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. Illawarra Hawks managed to win second period 24-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perth Wildcats dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Illawarra Hawks' 30. They outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 41-20 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Perth Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Illawarra Hawks' players. The winners were led by American forward Casey Prather (196-91, college: Florida) who scored that evening 18 points and the former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) supported him with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Even 19 points by New Zealand swingman Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin, agency: Duran International) did not help to save the game for Illawarra Hawks. American-Italian guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis) added 15 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perth Wildcats maintains second position with 4-2 record having four points less than leader United. Loser Illawarra Hawks dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Taipans. Perth Wildcats will meet at home bottom-ranked Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Illawarra Hawks will play against Cairns Taipans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
