Regular Season Round 4: Santos - Gigantes 89-81

There was a surprise result in San Luis Potosi where tenth ranked Santos (1-3) defeated higher ranked Gigantes (1-3) 89-81 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-14. But Gigantes won second period 23-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Santos won last quarter 27-21. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Gigantes were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Mark Borders (188-82, college: Tampa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 assists and the other American import forward Chris Cayole (201-85, college: St.Michael's) who added 18 points during the contest. Five Santos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Howard Crawford (205-88, college: UAB) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Carlos Toussaint (190-91) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Santos left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Indios and Gigantes. Santos will face Ciudad (#7) in Ciudad Juarez in the next round.
