Regular Season Round 2: Souffel - Evreux 79-81

A very interesting game took place in Souffelweyersheim. It ended with only two-point home defeat of Souffelweyersheim (0-2) to ALM Evreux (2-0) 81-79 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Souffelweyersheim was ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 21-16 charge of ALM Evreux, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Souffelweyersheim outrebounded ALM Evreux 38-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Souffelweyersheim helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Mathis Keita (192-92, college: Indiana, PA) notched 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American forward Joe Burton (201-90, college: Oregon St.) supported him with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds by American forward Jarryd Cole (205-88, college: Iowa) did not help to save the game for Souffelweyersheim. His fellow American import guard Matthew Gibson (195-84) added 12 points and 6 assists for the hosts. Four ALM Evreux and five Souffelweyersheim players scored in double figures. Souffelweyersheim's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. ALM Evreux's next round opponent will be Poitiers (#13) at home which should be an easy win for them. Souffelweyersheim will play against Lille Metropole and hope to win that game.
