Regular Season Round 4: PAOK - Aris Petropolis 84-49
Date: November 1, 2015
Bottom-ranked Aris Petropolis (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 84-49 loss to fifth ranked PAOK (3-1) in Thessaloniki. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. PAOK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Aris Petropolis' 22. PAOK forced 23 Aris Petropolis turnovers and outrebounded them 49-27 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Aris Petropolis' players. The winners were led by American forward Liza Clemons (188-92, college: Purdue, agency: LBM Management) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Stavroula Spanidou (179-84) supported her with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four PAOK players scored in double figures. Even 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by guard Natali Plumbi (169-81) did not help to save the game for Aris Petropolis. point guard Anastasia Tserou (166-95) added 9 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. PAOK moved-up to second place, which they share with Niki Lefkadas and Panathinaikos. Newly promoted Aris Petropolis still closes the standings with four games lost. PAOK's next round opponent will be Panathinaikos (#3) in Athens, which may be the game of the day. Aris Petropolis will play at home against Ippokratis (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
