Regular Season Round 1: Shanghai S. - Zhejiang CB 95-88

Shanghai Sharks used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Hangzhou 95-88 on Sunday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-16. But Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank won second period 25-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Shanghai Sharks forced 19 Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shanghai Sharks made 9 blocks. Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American point guard A.J. Price (188-86, college: Connecticut) who helped to win the game recording 32 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center ZhaoXu Zhang (221-87, college: California) contributed with 8 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Shanghai Sharks' coach Peng Liu used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import point guard Willie Warren (193-89, college: Oklahoma) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank. Four Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank players scored in double figures. Shanghai Sharks will face Bayi Rockets (#11) in Ningbo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank will play on the road against Sichuan BW (#7) and hope to win that game.
