Regular Season Round 7: Azkoitia - Zamarat 63-72

Bottom-ranked Azkoitia (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 72-63 loss to eleventh ranked Zamarat (3-4) in Azpeitia. It looked good early as Azkoitia took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zamarat had a 16-8 second period charge getting the lead and Azkoitia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 63-72. They outrebounded Azkoitia 42-27 including a 36-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zamarat brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Dutch guard Natalie Van Den Adel (185-90, college: Colorado St.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Eilidh Simpson (170-92, college: St.Francis, NY) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Zamarat players scored in double figures. Serbian swingman Marina Markovic (185-91) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Russian power forward Mariya Davydova (190-93, college: FIU) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Azkoitia. Azkoitia's coach Joseba Guesalaga rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zamarat moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Azkoitia lost their seventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with seven games lost. Zamarat will play against Gran Canaria (#13) in Las Palmas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Azkoitia will play on the road against Universitario de Ferrol and hopes to get finally their first victory.
