Regular Season Round 6: Cartagena - Sagunto 81-82

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Sagunto and bottom-ranked Cartagena had identical 0-3 record. But Cartagena was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Gilet 82-81 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 25-18 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Sagunto made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Cartagena outrebounded Sagunto 32-18 including 20 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Jorge Cerda (182-92) who saved his team from a defeat with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Luis Ferrando (185-96, college: Mount Olive) contributed with 23 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Sagunto's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Jorge Lledo (203-80) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and guard Domingo Fernandez (180-84) added 18 points in the effort for Cartagena. Sagunto (1-3) left bottom position moving up to seventh place in Group E, which they share with UCAM Murcia II. It was Cartagena's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Sagunto will face Benidorm (#9) at home in the next round. Cartagena will play against UCAM Murcia II and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
