There was a surprise result when eighth ranked Adelaide Lightning (1-4) defeated at home much higher ranked Bendigo Spirit (4-3) 76-68 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-10. But Bendigo Spirit won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide Lightning made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of international point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of her seven free throws) and American forward Mikaela Ruef (190-90, college: Stanford) who added 8 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and the former international Belinda Snell (180-81) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. Adelaide Lightning maintains eighth position with 1-4 record. Loser Bendigo Spirit keeps the second place with three games lost. Adelaide Lightning will face higher ranked Perth Lynx (#3) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bendigo Spirit will play against the league's leader SEQ having rather not much hope for a victory.
