Regular Season Round 12: Toyama Grouses - Sendai 89ers 92-77

There was a change at the BJ League leadership position after last games. Round 12 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Sendai 89ers (8-2). They were defeated by fifth ranked Toyama Grouses (6-4) 92-77 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Sendai 89ers managed to win fourth quarter 27-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sendai 89ers 47-33 including 18 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and Joho Masashi (183-82) who added 26 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and his fellow American import guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyama Grouses moved-up to fourth place. Sendai 89ers at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Okinawa GK. Sendai 89ers will play next round against Gunma trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
