Regular Season Round 5: Breakers - 36ers 98-88
Date: November 5, 2015
Rather predictable result in Auckland where third ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-4) defeated 5th ranked Adelaide 36ers (4-4) 98-88 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 32-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. New Zealand Breakers made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) stepped up and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and American-Ukrainian point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for New Zealand Breakers. Defending champion maintains third place with 4-4 record having six points less than leader United, which they share with 36ers and Hawks. New Zealand Breakers will face league's second-placed Perth Wildcats at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Adelaide 36ers will play against Kings in Sydney and hope to win that game.
