Regular Season Round 2: Franca - Flamengo 65-89
Date: November 5, 2015
Very predictable result in Sao Paulo where Flamengo (1-1) smashed Vivo/Franca (1-1) 89-65. It looked good early as Vivo/Franca took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flamengo had a 24-19 second period charge getting the lead and Vivo/Franca was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-89. Flamengo dominated on the defensive end, holding Vivo/Franca to just 7 points in third quarter. They made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Flamengo players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Vivo/Franca helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international power forward Joao Paulo Batista (205-81, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Welington Dos Santos (185-81) replied with 11 points and 7 assists and forward Antonio Ferreira (178-94) added 13 points in the effort for Vivo/Franca. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Flamengo's next round opponent will be Winner/Limeira (#9) at home where they are favorite. Vivo/Franca will play against Minas (#8) in Belo Horizonte and hope to win that game.
