Regular Season Round 8: Shandong - Bayi 88-93

Bottom-ranked Shandong (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to third ranked Bayi Kylin (5-3) 93-88 on Thursday evening. Shandong was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 26-15 charge of Bayi Kylin, which allowed them to win the game. They made 35-of-36 free shots (97.2 percent) during the game, while Shandong only scored eleven points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was international center Mengran Sun (197-92) who scored 28 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Point guard Jiayi Zuo (178-92) chipped in 22 points, 5 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Forward Shuo Wang (184-93) produced 20 points and 7 assists and the former international power forward Xiao Ji (193-85) added 18 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shandong's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bayi Kylin moved-up to second place, which they share with Beijing. Newly promoted Shandong still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Heilongjiang. Bayi Kylin will meet league's second-placed Guangdong Dolphins in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shandong will play against Henan (#5) in Jiyuan and hopes to get finally their first victory.
