Regular Season Round 8: Shanghai - Guangdong 70-64

There was a change at the WCBA leadership position after last games. Round 8 most important game was a defeat of Guangdong Dolphins (6-2). They were defeated by second ranked Shanghai Dahua (7-1) 70-64 on Thursday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guangdong Dolphins. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-12. But Guangdong Dolphins won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Shanghai Dahua won last quarter 23-19. They also forced 23 Guangdong Dolphins turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Australian center Elizabeth Cambage (203-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and international guard Binbin Shen (174-89) who added 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and international forward Sijing Huang (192-96) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Shanghai Dahua have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Guangdong Dolphins at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Xinjiang. Guangdong Dolphins will play next round against strong Bayi Kylin trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Shanghai Dahua will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Jiangsu Phoenix in Yixing.
