Regular Season Round 5: Proteas - Olympiacos Pireus 59-70

A1 top team - Olympiacos Pireus (5-0) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat sixth ranked Proteas (2-3) in Voula 70-59. The game without a history. Olympiacos Pireus led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Olympiacos Pireus forced 25 Proteas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international swingman Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals for the winning side and American forward Lykendra Johnson (185-89, college: Michigan St.) accounted for 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-88) came up with 11 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Katie Rutan (173-90, college: Maryland) added 12 points respectively for Proteas in the defeat. Four Proteas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olympiacos Pireus have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Loser Proteas keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Olympiacos Pireus will meet Athinaikos (#4) in the next round. Proteas will play against the league's second-placed Niki Lefkadas and hope to secure a win.
