Regular Season Round 5: Bendigo - SEQ 84-79

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bendigo. Third ranked Bendigo Spirit faced 3rd placed SEQ. Host Bendigo Spirit (5-3) defeated guests from Crestmead (5-2) 84-79. SEQ was ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 38-26 second half run of Bendigo Spirit. They made 20-of-22 charity shots (90.9 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. International center Gabrielle Richards (191-84, college: Oregon) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). International guard Kelly Wilson (170-84) contributed with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Four Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. Guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) answered with 22 points and 5 assists and Nigerian-American Ify Ibekwe (187-89, college: Arizona, agency: LBM Management) added 9 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for SEQ. Bendigo Spirit maintains third place with 5-3 record having just -1 point less than leader SEQ. Newly promoted SEQ still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Sydney. Bendigo Spirit will play against Perth Lynx (#4) at home in the next round. SEQ will play against Boomers and hopes to get back on the winning track.
