Regular Season Round 4: Sokhumi - Kutaisi 65-69

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Sokhumi (3-1) in Tbilisi on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Kutaisi (3-1) 69-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Sokhumi. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sokhumi won third quarter 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Azerbaijani guard Zaur Pashaev (188-83) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Levan Tsekvava (190-89) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Kutaisi players scored in double figures. American guard Matt Glover (196-91, college: USF) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals and center Sergo Atuashvili (223-85) added 17 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Sokhumi. Sokhumi's coach Vazha Kvaratskhelia rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kutaisi have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Sokhumi. Kutaisi is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Mgzavrebi (#8) in Tbilisi in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sokhumi's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Dinamo Tbilisi.
