Regular Season Round 4: Olimpi - Mgzavrebi 78-72
Date: November 7, 2015
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Olimpi (#7) and Mgzavrebi (#8). Olimpi (1-2) won against visiting Mgzavrebi (1-3) 78-72. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mgzavrebi won third quarter 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Olimpi won last quarter 24-20. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olimpi made 9 blocks. The winners were led by American guard Jeremy Bynum (193-88, college: Jacksonville St.) who scored that evening 22 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Austin Steed (203-88, college: E.Carolina) supported him with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Bynum is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Olimpi's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 25 points and 5 rebounds by Kakhaber Jintcharadze (195-93) did not help to save the game for Mgzavrebi. American center Reggie Murphy (208-91, college: Henderson St.) added 7 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Olimpi left bottom position moving up to fifth place. It was Mgzavrebi's third loss in a row. They stay at the bottom position with three games lost. They share it with Rustavi. Olimpi will meet league's second-placed Kutaisi on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mgzavrebi will play against the league's second-placed Kutaisi (#2) and hope to win that game.
