Rather expected game when 7th ranked Castellammare (2-2) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked San Pietro (4-1) 68-54 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by San Pietro. Castellammare was better in third quarter 12-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Mariella Santucci (178-97) stepped up and scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Federica Brunetti (184-88, agency: Players Group) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Barbara Negri (184-86) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds and Latvian forward Liga Vente (191-91, college: Eckerd) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. San Pietro moved-up to third place in A2. Loser Castellammare dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. San Pietro will face Empoli (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Castellammare will play against Bologna and hope to win that game.
