There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Gran Canaria (2-6) beat higher ranked Zamarat (3-5) in Zamora 71-67 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 32-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Taysha Pye (175-89, college: William & Mary) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Swingman Blanca Tineo (178) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Slovenian center Sandra Pirsic (196-84) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 20 rebounds and Portuguese center Sofia Silva (187-90) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Zamarat. Gran Canaria maintains thirteenth position with 2-6 record. Loser Zamarat dropped to the ninth place with five games lost. Gran Canaria will face higher ranked Universitario de Ferrol (#7) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
