The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Guangdong Dolphins as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Shanghai Dahua) loss. Guangdong Dolphins defeated 3rd placed Bayi Kylin in Guangzhou 85-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bayi Kylin. The game was mostly controlled by Guangdong Dolphins. Bayi Kylin was better in fourth quarter 22-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Bayi Kylin 37-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. International guard LiWei Yang (175-95) contributed with 13 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five Guangdong Dolphins players scored in double figures. International center Mengran Sun (197-92) answered with 19 points and 7 rebounds and forward Yang Liu (178-90) added 14 points in the effort for Bayi Kylin. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Shanghai. Bayi Kylin at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Bayi Kylin will play next round against strong Jiangsu Phoenix trying to get back on the winning streak. Guangdong Dolphins will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Shandong at Jinan.
