Regular Season Round 5: Niki Lefkadas - Terpsithea 67-65

The most exciting game of round 5 in the A1 took place in Lefkadas. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Terpsithea (1-4) to second ranked Niki Lefkadas (4-1) 67-65 on Sunday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Terpsithea was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 16-12 charge of Niki Lefkadas, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Terpsithea turnovers. American forward Janae Smith (188-92, college: UAB) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Antigoni Chairistanidou (188-91) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American center Akila McDonald (193-91, college: S.Florida) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import forward Amelia Simmons (181-87, college: Wilmington, DE) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Terpsithea. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Niki Lefkadas have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Niki Lefkadas maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader Olympiacos Pireus, which they share with Panathinaikos. Terpsithea at the other side dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Kronos AD. Niki Lefkadas is looking forward to face Proteas (#6) in Voula in the next round. Terpsithea will play against Aris Petropolis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
