Regular Season Round 5: Maccabi T-A - Maccabi Ashdod 83-88

An interesting game took place in Tel-Aviv, where 4th placed Maccabi T-A (3-2) lost at home to eleventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (2-3) 83-88 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 34-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi Ashdod made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) who scored 34 points (!!!). His fellow American import power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) chipped in 19 points. The former international point guard Yogev Ohayon (189-87) produced 12 points and 6 assists and American forward Brian Randle (203-85) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach Guy Goodes let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Maccabi Ashdod moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Maccabi T-A dropped to the third position with two games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will face Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#6) at home in the next round. Maccabi T-A will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona and hope to win that game.
