Regular Season Round 5: Polpharma - Trefl Sopot 92-80 OT

Polpharma's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Trefl (0-5) 92-80. The game was mostly controlled by Polpharma. Trefl was better in third quarter 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Trefl used huge pressure winning it 19-11 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 4-16. American swingman Michael Hicks (193-83, college: Central Mo., agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and point guard Marcin Flieger (185-84, agency: Promotex) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Five Polpharma players scored in double figures. American point guard Tyreek Duren (183-91, college: La Salle) responded with 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and the former international Marcin Stefanski (200-83) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Trefl's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Polpharma (1-4) left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with Wilki Morskie. It was Trefl's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Polpharma will play against league's second-placed AZS Polfarmex in Kutno in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trefl will play on the road against Energa Czarni (#7) in Slupsk and hopes to get finally their first victory.
