Regular Season Round 14: Hamamatsu P. - Hiroshima L. 89-86

Eleventh-ranked Hiroshima L. (1-10) was very close to win a game against second ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (9-3) in Mikawa on Sunday. Hamamatsu Phoenix managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-86. Hamamatsu Phoenix outrebounded Hiroshima L. 37-24 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American players dominated the game. Guard Terrance Woodbury (201-87, college: Georgia, agency: Haylett Sports) notched 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Reginald Warren (204-81, college: W.Florida) supported him with 20 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists. Woodbury is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Tomoya Higashino used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Even 30 points and 5 rebounds by forward Adam Herman (199-91, college: Concordia, OR) did not help to save the game for Hiroshima L.. Guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) added 17 points and 5 assists for the guests. Four Hiroshima L. players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 9-3 record having just -1 point less than leader Okinawa GK, which they share with Sendai 89ers and Osaka Evessa. Hiroshima L. lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Tokyo Cinq R.. Hamamatsu Phoenix will meet Shiga L-Stars (#4) on the road in the next round. Hiroshima L. will play against Oita Heat Devils (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
