Regular Season Round 5: Marghera - San Salvatore 64-68

Very predictable result in Venezia where fourth ranked San Salvatore (4-1) defeated 10th ranked Marghera (1-4) 68-64 on Sunday. Marghera was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 22-16 charge of San Salvatore, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Marghera outrebounded San Salvatore 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Slovenian power forward Ana Ljubenovic (185-88) stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and forward Giorgia Manfrc (183-92) chipped in 6 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Erika Striulli (170-90) responded with 16 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Irene Mattiuzzo (165-90) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Marghera's coach Francesco Iurlaro let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. San Salvatore maintains fourth place in A2 with 4-1 record. Newly promoted Marghera dropped to the eleventh position with four games lost. San Salvatore will face higher ranked Vicenza (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Marghera will play against Alpo VR (#6) in Verona and hope to win that game.
