Regular Season Round 10: Niigata R. - Denso Iris 66-82

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 82-66 loss to third ranked Denso Iris (8-2) in Tokyo. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Niigata R. was better in third quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 34. They outrebounded Niigata R. 48-34 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Denso Iris players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) notched 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and international guard Minami Iju (168-90) supported her with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 16 points and 6 rebounds by power forward Mei Chi (175-90) did not help to save the game for Niigata R.. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) added 10 points and 5 assists for lost side. Denso Iris have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Toyota A. Niigata R. at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Denso Iris' next round opponent will be Toyota B SR (#7) in Aichi where they are favorite. Niigata R. will play at home against the league's leader JX-Eneos S. (#1) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
