Regular Season Round 7: Fuerza Regia - Abejas 87-97

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Fuerza Regia (4-1) in Monterrey on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Abejas (6-1) 97-87. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Fuerza Regia. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Fuerza Regia's 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Andre Jones (191-90, college: Winthrop) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 5 assists. American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) helped adding 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) responded with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fuerza Regia's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Abejas keep a position of league leader, which they share with Soles. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the fourth place with one game lost. Abejas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fuerza Regia will play again at home against the league's leader Abejas (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
