Caxias do Sul's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (2-2) on the road game in Sao Jose 76-71 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 22-18 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 10-5. The winners were led by center Marcao Vinicius (205-84) who scored that evening 15 points and 5 rebounds and Alex Oliveira (196-83) supported him with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Even 22 points and 5 rebounds by power forward Renato Carbonari (206-87) did not help to save the game for Sao Jose/Vinac. Forward Cesar Araujo (201-81) added 13 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Caxias do Sul (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Minas and Rio Claro. Loser Sao Jose/Vinac keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Pinheiros and B.Cearense. Caxias do Sul will meet Vivo/Franca (#14) in the next round where they are favorite. Sao Jose/Vinac will play against Rio Claro (#16) and hope to secure a win.
