Regular Season Round 4: Mogi - Pinheiros 86-83

Important game to mention about took place in Mogi das Cruzes. Fourth ranked Mogi (3-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Pinheiros (2-2) 86-83 on Thursday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Pinheiros took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mogi had a 17-5 second period charge getting the lead and Pinheiros was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-86. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Pinheiros to just 5 points in second quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) who added 11 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and forward Lucas Dias Silva (209-95) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mogi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Pinheiros at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with S.Jose/Unimed and B.Cearense. Mogi will play against Winner/Limeira (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pinheiros will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
