The game between sixth ranked Flamengo (2-1) and 16th ranked Rio Claro (1-3) in Rio de Janeiro on Friday ended with biggest points difference. Flamengo outscored guests from Rio Claro 102-70. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 102-70. Flamengo dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Rio Claro's 34 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international power forward Joao Paulo Batista (205-81, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. The former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) replied with 10 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Andre Stefanelli (196-84) added 15 points in the effort for Rio Claro. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Franca. Rio Claro lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with three games lost. Flamengo will face Liga Sorocaba (#15) in Sorocabana in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Rio Claro will play on the road against Sao Jose/Vinac and hope to win that game.
