Regular Season Round 5: Guangdong ST - Qingdao E. 118-109

Very expected game in Dongguan where 16th ranked Qingdao Eagles (1-4) were defeated by sixth ranked Guandong Tigers (4-1) 118-109 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Qingdao Eagles won third quarter 29-28. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Guandong Tigers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American point guard Will Bynum (183-83, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Priority Sports) stepped up and scored 32 points, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winners and the former international Jianlian Yi (212-87) chipped in 21 points and 9 rebounds. Five Guandong Tigers players scored in double figures. Guandong Tigers' coach Feng Du used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) responded with 45 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import center Alan Williams (203-93, college: UCSB) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Guandong Tigers. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Liaoning H. and Guangsha L. Loser Qingdao Eagles keep the sixteenth position with four games lost. Guandong Tigers will face DongGuan Leopards (#6) on the road in the next round. Qingdao Eagles will play against TianJin Steel (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
