Regular Season Round 6: Alpo VR - Marghera 58-69

There was an upset in Verona where higher ranked Alpo VR (3-3) was defeated by eleventh ranked Marghera (2-4) 69-58 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 41-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Marghera made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 27 Alpo VR turnovers. Alpo VR was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Irene Mattiuzzo (165-90) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Erika Striulli (170-90) chipped in 14 points. Four Marghera players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian Marina Dzinic (190-92) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Marina Fumagalli (175-93) added 7 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Alpo VR's coach Nicola Soave rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Marghera moved-up to tenth place in A2. Loser Alpo VR dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Marghera will face Scrivia (#11) at home in the next round.
