There was a surprise result in Madrid where tenth ranked Alcazar (3-2) beat one of their biggest challengers Real Canoe (3-2) 74-56 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 41-20 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Alcazar dominated on the defensive end, holding Real Canoe to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Alcazar forced 20 Real Canoe turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Pablo Villarejo (194-92) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) who added 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. point guard Alejandro Iglesias (180-91) responded with 11 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Greg Palmer (200-88, college: Salisbury St.) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Alcazar moved-up to fourth place in Group B, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Real Canoe. Alcazar will face league's leader Quintanar at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Real Canoe's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Madrid to the arena Estudiantes B.
