Regular Season Round 9: Basket Esch - Amicale 71-92

The game between Top Four teams took place in Esch. 4th placed host Basket Esch (5-4) was smashed by leader Amicale (9-0) 92-71. The game was mostly controlled by Amicale. Basket Esch managed to win third quarter 16-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game, while Basket Esch only scored six points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Billy McDaniel (199-84, college: Ark.-Monticello, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. International guard Bob Melcher (189-94) chipped in 24 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Four Amicale players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Zeke Upshaw (198-91, college: Hofstra) who recorded 25 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Jibril Hodges (188-84, college: Long Beach St.) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. Basket Esch's coach Franck Meriguet gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Amicale have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Loser Basket Esch keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Amicale will meet at home bottom-ranked Contern (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Basket Esch will play against Musel Pikes (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
