Regular Season Round 5: Mgzavrebi - Rustavi 76-85

Very significant was Energy Invest's (#5) 85-76 road victory against 8th ranked Mgzavrebi. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mgzavrebi won third quarter 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Energy Invest shot 26 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Mgzavrebi only scored seven points from the stripe. Mgzavrebi was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Serbian forward Nikola Gacesa (206-87, college: TCU) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and the former international point guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86) accounted for 10 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. American point guard Kaheem Ransom (185, college: Sam Houston St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and Kakhaber Jintcharadze (195-93) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Mgzavrebi in the defeat. Five Energy Invest and four Mgzavrebi players scored in double figures. Mgzavrebi's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Energy Invest went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Olimpi. Mgzavrebi lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with four games lost. Energy Invest will play against league's leader MIA in Tbilisi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mgzavrebi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Sokhumi.
