Regular Season Round 6: Chiba Jets - Hitachi SR 73-76

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Chiba Jets (3-7) were edged at home by fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (6-4) 76-73 on Saturday. Chiba Jets trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 27-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 73-76 at the end of the game. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated on the defensive end, holding Chiba Jets to just 3 points in first quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Chiba Jets' 36. It was a good game for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Kenta Hirose (193-85) contributed with 18 points for the winners. American power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota) replied with 18 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Brian Cook (208-80, college: Illinois) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Chiba Jets. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach Zeljko Pavlicevic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains fifth position with 6-4 record. Loser Chiba Jets keep the ninth place with seven games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Tsukuba R. (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite.
