Rather expected game when 12th ranked Oviedo (1-6) was rolled over on the road by ninth ranked Arxil Pontevedra (3-4) 74-50 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Arxil Pontevedra. Oviedo was better in fourth quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Oviedo to just 7 points in second quarter. Arxil Pontevedra forced 25 Oviedo turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Arxil Pontevedra made 7 blocks. American-Jamaican power forward Yanique Gordon (193-91, college: Cent.Florida) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Maria Gonzalez (180-93) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Four Arxil Pontevedra players scored in double figures. Power forward Silvia Urdiales (185-89) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ana Fernandez (-93) added 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arxil Pontevedra moved-up to eighth place in Group A, which they share with Badajoz. Oviedo lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Arxil Pontevedra will face ADBA (#12) in Aviles in the next round. Oviedo will play at home against the league's second-placed GDKO Bizkaia having rather not much hope for a victory.
