Regular Season Round 6: Naft Abadan - Army 68-62
Date: November 16, 2015
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Army (1-5) was defeated on the road by second ranked Naft Abadan (5-1) 68-62. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Army took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Naft Abadan had a 24-18 second period charge getting the lead and Army was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-68. 32 personal fouls committed by Army helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90) notched a double-double by scoring 10 points and 19 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international Mehrad Atashi (191-86) supported him with 20 points. Four Naft Abadan players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 9 rebounds by international power forward Hossein Rahmati (203-93) did not help to save the game for Army. point guard Hamed Beigi (188-95) added 7 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Naft Abadan have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Chemidor. Newly promoted Army keeps the ninth place with five games lost. Naft Abadan's next round opponent will be Shahrdari Gorgan (#5) on the road. Army will play against Samen (#6) and hope to win that game.
