Regular Season Round 7: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi T-A 75-78

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Maccabi Rishon (4-2) in Rishon Le-Zion on Monday night. Hosts were edged by Maccabi T-A (5-2) 78-75. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-15. But Maccabi Rishon won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maccabi Rishon 38-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Maccabi T-A looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) helped adding 13 points and 10 rebounds. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) responded with 17 points and 6 assists and the other American import power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maccabi T-A keeps a position of league leader. Maccabi Rishon at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Hapoel J-M and Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi T-A are looking forward to face Maccabi Haifa (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Maccabi Rishon will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona in Nes Ziyona and is hoping to win this game.
