Regular Season Round 7: Empoli - Stabia 77-69

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Empoli (3-3) beat at home 6th ranked Castellammare (3-3) 77-69 on Saturday. Castellammare was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Empoli forced 19 Castellammare turnovers. Strangely Castellammare outrebounded Empoli 44-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. Quite impressive performance for Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Francesca Rosellini (176-90) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Empoli's coach Alessio Cioni allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Greta Brunelli (176-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and Latvian forward Liga Vente (191-91, college: Eckerd) added 10 points and 15 rebounds in the effort for Castellammare. Empoli moved-up to eighth place in A2. Empoli will face higher ranked Viterbo (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Castellammare will play against Irpino and hope to win that game.
