Regular Season Round 9: Paterna - L`Alfas 87-76

There was a surprise result when seventh ranked Paterna (4-3) defeated at home 3rd placed L`Alfas (4-2) 87-76 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Paterna. L`Alfas was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. Paterna forced 22 L`Alfas turnovers. L`Alfas was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Alberto Valle (186-81) who scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Jose Maria Garcia (192-78) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Paterna players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Belarusian power forward Ivan Zhauniarovich (205-86) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds and Iker Benzazoua added 17 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Paterna moved-up to fourth place in Group E, which they share with Valencia II. Newly promoted L`Alfas keeps the third position with two games lost. Paterna will face Benidorm (#8) at home in the next round. L`Alfas will play against the league's second-placed Almassera (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
