Bottom-ranked CD Puerto Varas managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of two consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they edged sixth-ranked Tinguiririca S.F. in San Fernando 99-97. CD Puerto Varas shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. American guard Jay Hook (193-93, college: Tulane) fired 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Ronald Cruces (177-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists. Five CD Puerto Varas players scored in double figures. CD Puerto Varas' coach Gaston Fernandez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international point guard Franco Morales (179-92) produced 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and the former international center Jorge Valencia (206-77) added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. CD Puerto Varas (5-7) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Tinguiririca S.F. CD Puerto Varas will meet higher ranked Espanol de Talca (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tinguiririca S.F. will play against Deportivo Valdivia and hope to secure a win.
