Regular Season Round 9: Venta de Banos - Mondragon 88-80

There was an upset when higher ranked Mondragon (2-3) was defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Venta de Banos (1-4) 88-80 on Saturday. Mondragon trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 28-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 80-88 at the end of the game. Venta de Banos forced 19 Mondragon turnovers. The best player for the winners was point guard Juan Pedro Garcia (192-88) who scored 18 points and 6 assists. Forward Alvaro Reyes (199-97) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Iker Barbero (192-92) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and forward Andoni Aranzabal (-91) added 16 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mondragon's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Venta de Banos left bottom position moving up to tenth place in Group A-A, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Mondragon keeps the seventh position with three games lost. Venta de Banos will face league's leader Pielagos in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
